Ingredients
3 medium apples, cored, sliced thin
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 lemon, zested and juiced
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoon whole wheat flour
1 cup quick cooking oats
3 tablespoons butter or trans fat-free margarine
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup Splenda brown sugar blend*
2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
¼ teaspoon salt
*If using regular brown sugar, use 1/2 cup. Nutrient values will differ.
PREPARATION
- Preheat the oven to 375° F. Lightly oil an 8-9 inch square pan.
- Prepare the Filling. In a medium bowl, mixed sliced apples, cinnamon, lemonzest and juice, vanilla extract and whole wheat flour. Toss to coat apples.
- Spread apple mixture evening in the pan and set aside.
- Prepare the topping. Cut butter into pea sized pieces. In a medium bowl mix oats, cinnamon, sugar, whole wheat flour and salt together. Using your hands, mix in the butter until it is distributed throughout the entire mixture. It should have a crumbly texture and all ingredients should be well mixed.
- Sprinkle the oat crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
- Baked uncovered for 30 minutes or until topping is browned and juices are bubbling on the sides.
