Everything is bigger in Texas and the Texas-based burger chain, Whataburger, did not disappoint for their 71st anniversary. They celebrated big with a first-ever, system-wide fundraiser benefiting Feeding America and food banks across their 10-state footprint.
During their Orange Spirit Week last month, customers who donated at least a $1 at the register received a coupon for a free Whataburger sandwich with the purchase of a medium fry and a drink. The campaign was a success, raising more than $300,000 to fight hunger. Locally, the Whataburger Feeding Student Success program –Whataburger’s signature community program supporting education and addressing food insecurity—will donate $19,000 to the Central Texas Food Bank. That’s the equivalent of more than 76,000 meals for our neighbors in need!
“No one should ever have to worry about not being able to provide a meal for their family. That’s why we are so excited to share that through our partnership with Feeding America, Whataburger will be donating over $19,000 to the Central Texas Food Bank in the fight against food insecurity right here in our central Texas community,” Regional Director of Operations – Central Texas Don Hurrell said.
The celebration didn’t end there. This year, Whataburger sponsored Hunger Action Month in September. As in years before, Whataburger generously provided breakfast for our staff. This year we were excited to receive Whataburger-themed spiral notebooks to distribute to our partner pantries for kids going back to school. Additionally, Whataburger is inspiring our volunteers to give back by matching donations made in the Food Bank lobby.
The pandemic has affected families more than ever. We can’t thank Whataburger enough for going above and beyond to make a real impact for families struggling to get back on their feet. Whether it’s employees volunteering in our warehouse or raising funds to fight hunger, Whataburger is always looking for creative ways to make a difference. Thank you, Whataburger!
