Daniel is a retired Air Force veteran who, along with his wife, has been visiting the Central Texas Food Bank Mobile Pantry since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.
Serving the Air Force for six and a half years flying cargo planes and teaching pilots how to fly the T-38, He was based in Alabama briefly before moving to Bergstrom Air Force base in Austin, Texas.
After his travels in the Air Force, Daniel dreamed of owning a home in his hometown. Seventeen years ago his dream came true when Daniel and his family settled in Austin. Now in retirement and living off a fixed income, the high cost of groceries can make it difficult for Daniel and his wife to get the nutritious food they need. They are helping to raise their two grandchildren and the extra cost of food adds up each month.
With help from the Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry program, Daniel and his family have access to produce and protein, which has been a tremendous help for them. "The Food Bank helps us a lot with the fresh food we receive," said Daniel
Daniel's wife recalls when they first accessed services from Central Texas Food Bank early in the pandemic, receiving all the nutritious grocery staples they needed to keep the family fed. This kind of support has been invaluable to them, and they are grateful for the help they receive from the Food Bank. "We appreciate it so much," said Daniel and his wife.
"You do a great job; we appreciate everything you guys do for us," Daniel said. "This 90% of our groceries, we don't get to buy much, so thank you so much for all the help." Daniel's wife shares.
The Central Texas Food Bank is grateful for Daniel's unwavering commitment and service to our country. If you would like to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors like Daniel, please visit our Donate page or explore ways you can take action to end hunger today here.
