At the Central Texas Food Bank, our volunteers are the heart of our mission to nourish and support our community. One such dedicated volunteer is Lanay Fuller, whose journey of service began in 2018. Lanay’s passion for giving back is rooted in a family legacy of service, inspired by her mother, who devoted her career to helping vulnerable populations. "Seeing the fulfillment she gained from helping others inspired me to do the same," Lanay shared.
Lanay’s volunteer experience is a testament to the diversity of opportunities at the Food Bank. She has worked in every area, from the garden to the mobile food pantries. Whether she’s preparing burritos in the kitchen or sorting through donations in the warehouse, Lanay finds purpose in every task. "My favorite thing about the Food Bank is the wide range of opportunities it offers. You’re not just restricted to sorting through packaged goods in the warehouse if that’s not your thing. You can test your green thumb in the garden, cook up something in the kitchen, or engage more personally by interacting with the community at a Mobile Food Pantry."
For Lanay, volunteering isn’t just about giving back—it’s also about personal growth. "Volunteering at the Food Bank has greatly broadened my worldview. I’ve met people from all walks of life...These interactions have taught me the value of humility and the importance of stepping outside my own experiences."
Even during busy or challenging times, Lanay finds solace and fulfillment in her service. "It reminds me that I’m making a positive impact and contributing to something greater than myself." Her advice to those hesitant to start volunteering? "Just get out there! Many of the people I met at the Food Bank were first-timers and really enjoyed their volunteering experience."
Lanay’s dedication is a reminder of the power of community and the impact we can have when we come together. "Giving back to the community is important because it enables us to create positive change and support those facing hardships greater than our own," she said.
