How Walmart and Sam’s Club Spark Change in Central Texas

Mar14

For thousands of families in Central Texas, putting food on the table is an ongoing challenge. But thanks to the support of our community and partners like Walmart and Sam’s Club, we are making a meaningful difference. This April, the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign returns, offering everyone the opportunity to take action against hunger in our region.

From March 1 to March 31, Walmart and Sam’s Club are rallying customers, suppliers, and community members to help fight food insecurity through simple acts — rounding up at checkout, purchasing participating products, or donating online. Each contribution directly supports the Central Texas Food Bank and helps ensure our neighbors have access to fresh, nutritious food.

A Powerful Partnership in Nourishing our Neighbors

For years, Walmart has been more than just a supporter of the Central Texas Food Bank — they’ve been a driving force in our mission. Their commitment extends beyond financial contributions, touching nearly every aspect of our work.

  • Essential Food Donations: Since 2021, we’ve received over 11 million pounds of food from 45 Walmart stores, nine Sam’s Club stores, and a distribution center within our service area. Nearly 70% of these donations are fresh produce, bringing healthier options to families who often lack access to them.

  • Fundraising for Impact: The Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign has raised over $425,000 for the Food Bank since 2021, thanks to direct customer donations and special contributions from brands like General Mills, Smuckers, and Kellogg's.

Nourishing Families, Strengthening Communities: Omar’s Story

These contributions are more than just numbers — they represent meals on the table for families facing difficult choices, such as Omar.

"All the fresh fruits and vegetables we received were amazing. Everything was very delicious,” said Omar, a neighbor who frequents one of our Mobile Pantries.

In the midst of a challenging job market, Omar has struggled to secure sufficient work hours and income. During this difficult time, his family has turned to the Central Texas Food Bank Mobile Pantry Program at the Turner Roberts Recreation Center. Omar reflects on his situation, stating, "My work schedule has been inconsistent and there is no balance between my income and expenses. But the food we receive here helps us a lot."

The Central Texas Food Bank Mobile Pantry Program supports Omar’s family and many others by providing food and supplies when they need them.

Because of the community’s investment in CTFB’s programs — including support from donors and food industry partners — neighbors like Omar can access the food they need today while building stability for tomorrow. With this support, he’s not just making his favorite meals — he’s reclaiming a sense of comfort and security at the table.
