David is a lead driver for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas responsible for delivering food to our charitable partners. In this employee spotlight he shares his passion for traveling.
Position: Lead Driver
How long have you been with the Food Bank?
Eight years
What does your job entail?
As lead driver for regional distribution, I travel to our partner agencies and deliver food. It’s great to see how the food I deliver impacts the community and all the people who use the food pantries and soup kitchens.
If someone wrote a book about you, what would the title be?
“Why I love Ultra!” (Ultra are 50k-100k+ races) – I started running when my kids got older & I ran my first marathon when I was 35, it was the Austin Motorola marathon. My favorite marathon I’ve done is the ‘Goofy’ marathon at Disneyworld in Florida. My favorite competition has been the Iron Man (swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, & run 26.2 miles). I also ran the Capitol 10k with other members of the Food Bank in April.
What other past times do you enjoy?
I love landscaping and gardening, this is the time of year in Texas you can already start getting your yard ready for summer. And I love to go on Camping adventures all over the country as much as I can. I’m also planning a cycling adventure in Utah right now.
What would someone learn if they did your job for a day?
They’d learn about the physical demands of the job and also have a better understanding of how each agency operates and the impact that we have on their ability to serve people in need.
What’s your favorite thing about working at the Food Bank?
Being on the road and interacting with the people at our Partner Agencies.
