We're so grateful for our volunteers who make sure we can provide nutritious food to families in their moment of need. Today we celebrate our Volunteer Leader of the Quarter, James Ward!
Since 2006, James has been an incredible supporter of the Food Bank, volunteering over 4,200 hours in Product Recovery and at community events. James encompasses everything we look for in a Volunteer Leader and we are incredibly grateful to have him on board.
James is originally from Weimer, TX and moved to Austin in the early 1980’s. In 2000, James began volunteering at the Austin Baptist Chapel and six years later, he started volunteering at the Food Bank, where he has been ever since. James volunteers two days a week in Product Recovery from 7:30 a.m. -3 p.m. He is very dependable, courteous to staff and other volunteers, and is always in good spirits.
James’s favorite thing about volunteering at the Food Bank is joking around with staff and volunteers. Should he meet someone that has never volunteered at the Food Bank, he says he would tell them volunteering helps get food to the Food Bank partners and is a good way to give back to the community. When asked to share something that staff may not already know about him, his response was, “I think they already know.”
Thank you so much, James, for your continuous support of the Food Bank and your commitment to ending hunger in Central Texas!
