Forty years ago, today, our first committee (pictured above) helped incorporate the Food Bank under the Texas Nonprofit Corporation Act. The same year, it also became an affiliate of America’s Second Harvest (now Feeding America). Originally The Capital Area Food Bank, we were the second food bank to open in Texas in 1982. In our first year, we recovered, stored, and distributed fewer than 330,000 pounds. Last year, we distributed more than 64 million pounds. What a milestone!
Over the past four decades, the Food Bank has seen billions of pounds distributed, two new buildings, a complete rebrand, more than a dozen new programs added to serve our clients’ needs, and countless lives touched. None of it would be possible without the support from our volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community allies and their dedication to fighting hunger in Central Texas.
Today we celebrate 40 years of dedication, commitment, and service to our mission. Thank you!
