If you recall, in our last update about the Supporting America’s Charity Act we said that “we know that the fight can continue.” Today we’re back to renew our efforts, because every person at risk of hunger deserves a fighting chance.
It’s the same bill with a new name and a new campaign. Certain members of the House are highlighting “Tax Certainty Week” by bringing up charitable tax bills for vote. Now called the America Gives More Act of 2015, H.R. 644 would expand and make permanent three expiring charitable tax incentives, including our food donation tax deduction.
You can help us capture some of the nearly 70 billion pounds of nutritious, wholesome food wasted each year and put it in the hands of your neighbors who need it most. Imagine being part of a community where it’s cheaper to donate good food to us instead of dumping it in the landfill.
Bottom line: this bipartisan bill has the potential to increase the amount of food we distribute to families at risk of hunger.
