Walmart is with us every step of the way in our mission to end hunger in Central Texas, showing 360 degree engagement with the Central Texas Food Bank.
Between the 45 Walmart stores and 9 Sam’s Clubs in our service territory, including a Distribution Center, the Central Texas Food Bank has received just over 11 million pounds of food since 2021. Nearly 70% of these donations are fresh produce! As the Food Bank strives to provide equitable access to healthy food for our Central Texas community, the fresh produce we receive from Walmart makes a considerable difference in the lives of those we serve.
Now in its 10th consecutive year, the Walmart Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign is back again. From April 10 through May 8, Walmart and Sam’s Club shoppers can support the campaign in three easy ways in store, in club and online.
- Product Purchase: For every participating product purchased in store, in club or online at Walmart.com or SamsClub.com, the supplier will donate the monetary equivalent of at least one meal ($0.10) on behalf of a Feeding America member food bank at Walmart and five meals ($0.50) at Sam’s Club, up to applicable limits. - Register Giving: Donate at check-out in stores or clubs or round up at Walmart.com
- Online Donation Page: Donate at Feeding America’s Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign donation site at either www.FeedingAmerica.org/Walmart or www.FeedingAmerica.org/SamsClub
In partnership with Walmart customers, Sam’s Club members, suppliers and associates, the campaign aims to help our Central Texas neighbors gain access to the food and resources they need to thrive. Since 2021 alone, the Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign raised more than $425,000 for the Central Texas Food Bank through Walmart and Sam's Club shoppers' point of sale donations and special donations from brands such as General Mills, Smuckers and Kellogg's.
In addition to food donations and the Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign, Walmart supports the Central Texas Food Bank through its Volunteerism Always Pays (VAP) program. For each volunteer hour served, Walmart will donate $10 to the Food Bank. On April 13th, Walmart associates joined us in the warehouse for a shift on their Day of Service. Thanks to the VAP program, the Central Texas Food Bank received $750 in addition to the support provided from their shift!
