More than 1 in 6 Central Texans and more than 1 in 4 Central Texas children are food insecure, which means they are not certain if they will have enough food at all times. Map the Meal Gap conducted by Feeding Amerca provdes a detailed analysis of food insecurity for every county in the US, and is the only study available that provides county–level estimates of food insecurity in the United States. The annual study measures the population affected by food insecurity and the factors that contribute to need in households across the country, including weekly food-budget shortfalls, demographics, poverty levels and unemployment rates.
