It’s not every day that a musician can get tips from the pros, especially from a member of a leading alternative rock band. Drummers are in for a treat as they get a chance to see Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins’ skills up-close-and-personal. Stephen will make his way to Austin to lead a drum clinic session where attendees can keep up to the beat of his drum. Hosted by Michael Bahan Percussion, Cascade Studios Austin, and Jeff Ryder Drum Shop, Stephen will demonstrate drum techniques and a question and answer session. Local bass player Matt Parmenter, owner of Ice Cream Factory Studio, will also perform during the clinic, and the event will culminate with a drum circle.
With the rise of Jane’s Addiction in the ‘80s, Stephen became a sought after drummer. After the temporary dissolution of Jane’s Addiction, Stephen lent his talents to Porno for Pyros, but has also played with Rage Against the Machine, No Doubt, Nine Inch Nails and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others. His diverse range of skills shined through his own project, Banyan, where he shows he isn’t afraid to mix genres, from world to jazz to rock.
Drummers can learn more from him at Michael Bahan Percussion on April 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost of admission is at least one healthy non-perishable food donation to benefit the Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at Jeff Ryder Drum Shop or Michael Bahan Percussion/Cascade Studios, the week leading up to the clinic. Monetary donations are welcome, but need to be made directly to the Food Bank. Proof of donation is required for attendance. Attendees can donate our client’s most requested items:
